As part of the activities held by the National Union of Ghanaian Students in Russia during it’s annual Congress, last year saw to the subsuming of a third edition of the eminent Miss Ghana Russia beauty pageant.
The Miss Ghana Russia 2019, which was to serve as harbinger for many other beauty pageants to be organized, saw Miss Peggy Mwinug-ma Bagonluri crowned winner while Miss Princess Abu-Bonsra and Miss Lucille Ama Anyan-Darko took up the first and second runner up positions respectively out of nine naturally striking and perspicacious ladies.
In an interview with the then National Executive Council, the Ladies expressed the challenges they faced as far as preparation was concerned.
“With many other beautiful Ladies to contend with, it was difficult to tell I was going to emerge winner”; Miss Peggy Mwinug-ma Bangonluri explained.
Activities of the night which were adjudged by Madam Lydia Acheampong- Darko (deputy registrar scholarship secretariat), Madam Rebecca Ali: (accountant scholarship Secreteriat), Mr. Solomon Tampuri (A Pan Africanist and a legal practitioner in UK), Mr.Michael Anane Domfeh (Educational attaché - Ghana Embassy (Russia)) and Mr. Philip Asiedu (Moscow Ghana community ex president ) included a
Cat Walk in both African and Evening gowns, talent hunt, a fashion show, cultural display among a variety of performances where delegates competed for titles like Miss Catwalk, Miss Talent, Miss Elegant, Miss Eloquent to mention a few.
Questions on Education in Russia and Ghana, Women Empowerment predominantly in the modelling and fashion industry, Political activities in Ghana among others were also addressed during the question and answer segment.
Other dignitaries present were, Mr. Ellis Sidney (Deputy Ambassador of Ghana to Russia), Mr Seth Ellis Bruce ( Representative Of the Ghana Embassy in Moscow, Russia), The then National Executive Council which included Mr. Patrick J.A Puplampu Dove the President, the Vice Mr. Hadi Mumuni, the General Secretary Miss Caroline Bonya, Mr. Ronald Abiti Addo Bless thé organizing secretary and the Financial Secretary Mr. Michael Mawunyo.
Also Present were the Women’s Commissioner; Miss Oscaria Ama Gyedu, The Newly elected National Executive Council members, chairpersons and members of the various committees that make up the National Union and Presidents of the various associations of African Students among others.
Upon interaction with a few Russians who were also in attendance, their joy and excitement weren’t left unexpressed as they experienced the rich cultural heritage of the country Ghana.
In a speech, the then President of the Union; Mr. Patrick Puplampu Dove applauded the Ladies for availing themselves and for “bringing Ghana to Russia”.
The newly elected President of the Union; Mr. Ronald Abiti Addo Bless; also the then organizing secretary in a toast commended the Ladies and everyone who helped make the event a success.
The event which was held on the 3rd of May 2019 in Moscow was climaxed with an After Party with the Ladies taking home Packages which included a Trip to Dubai, Plaques,, hampers, cash prizes and many more incentives.
